BFJ prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the development of a Buddhist hermitage on a 91-acre site in the Hamlet of Cragsmor, Town of Wawarsing. The proposed action is the construction of a 78,000 sf Buddhist hermitage, a center for worship focused on Buddhist meditation retreats up to three years in length, in seventeen buildings clustered throughout the 91-acre site. The project site is partially located within the Cragsmor Historic District and lies within the Shawangunk Ridge habitat complex, which encompasses diverse upland and wetland communities and is noted as an important migration corridor for raptors, other migratory birds, and mammals. BFJ coordinated closely with the project team to develop a site plan and project mitigation measures that best capitalize on and preserve this unusual natural context.
