In 2002, Community Board 8 in New York City passed a resolution authorizing a 197-a plan for the Queensboro Bridge Area to help guide the City in its attempts to revitalize the neighborhood. CB 8 retained BFJ to prepare a plan that set forth a unified, comprehensive, and functional proposal to improve and regenerate the underutilized waterfront and open spaces surrounding the Queensboro Bridge. A key goal of the 197-a Plan is to address the need for more open space, including dedicated park and passive recreational facilities, improved waterfront access, more street greenery, and overall streetscape improvements. The Plan was adopted by the City Planning Commission and the City Council in 2006.
