BFJ prepared a 197-a Plan that puts forth a unified, comprehensive, and workable proposal that will improve and regenerate the underutilized waterfront and open spaces surrounding the Queensboro Bridge. The basic goals of the Plan are to address the need for more open space, including dedicated park space, passive recreational facilities, improved waterfront access, and more street greenery, with overall streetscape improvements. Such a plan would create a network of public open spaces arranged around the Bridge, with connections to the waterfront. Sidewalk improvements, including street trees, would enhance the area, and help “green” the streetscape. Two key features of the Plan are the former Heliport Site located from 60th to 63rd Streets along the East River, and the entrance to the Bridge Plaza at Second Avenue. |
