The Village of Nyack is the recipient of the NY Planning Federation’s Award for planning for Plan Nyack: Blueprint for the Future, the Village’s 2016 update of its Comprehensive Plan. This award is a recognition of the Village’s Comprehensive Plan as a thoughtful, thorough and superior example of Master Planning. The planning process was led by BFJ Planning in collaboration with Village staff, a steering committee made up of local residents and elected officials, and a consultant team that included Perkins Eastman, James Lima P+D, Turner Miller Group, COWI Marine, Appleseed, and Sherwood Design Engineers. The plan is the result of a robust public outreach process that included substantial input from local residents at seven public workshops and a public survey that received nearly 1,000 responses. The plan, which was adopted in October 2016, is coordinated with the Sustainable Nyack Action Plan, and includes a focus on key opportunity areas in the Village—the Downtown, the waterfront, and the Gateway. The plan also evaluates the potential for commuter and recreational ferry service. Plan Nyack was made possible by a grant from NY State Energy Research and Development office (NYSERDA).
