Sustainability and Resiliency Planning.
Planning for sustainability and resilience is a central component of our work. Our process is action oriented, providing clients with specific strategies to achieve a greater level of sustainability, to reduce carbon emissions, prioritize infrastructure improvements and increase awareness of and provide opportunity for residents to live healthier lives. From energy efficiency, transit and connectivity enhancements, infrastructure and open space, to public health and response to climate change, we have collaborated with professional colleagues, community leaders, and municipal staff in identifying needs and action items, priorities, and initiatives to achieve success and accomplish goals.

A critical component of planning for sustainability is encouraging development patterns that build upon existing resources such as mass transit and mixed-use areas. Innovative Strategies to Protect Natural Resources
BFJ is committed to promoting ecology, biodiversity, and habitat protection. We have provided initiatives to reduce stormwater runoff, protect water bodies and wetlands, ad preserve open space. Clustering development is one tool we use to concentrate development, reserving open space for habitat and recreation. BFJ has developed zoning to guide the placement of solar facilities and equipment. BFJ has also created a guide for Transfer of Development Rights, a zoning tool that can be used to focus development in designated commercial centers while protecting environmental and agricultural areas from development.
